OTN News further reports that FG, who also announced Thursday, January 1, 2026, as a public holiday for the New Year celebration, made this declaration in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
According to the statement, the minister urged Nigerians to use the season to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice, which he described as central to the Christmas message and the birth of Jesus Christ.
Tunji-Ojo also called on citizens, irrespective of religion or ethnic background, to use the festive period to pray for peace, improved security, and national development across the country.
He advised Nigerians to remain law abiding and security conscious throughout the celebrations, noting that collective responsibility was key to sustaining peace and harmony during and after the festive season.
The minister, however, wished Nigerians a joyful Christmas celebration and a prosperous New Year, expressing optimism that the coming year would bring renewed hope and progress for the nation.
