Governor Dapo Abiodun Launches AI-Powered Teaching and Learning Platform Code Named OgunLearn

In a move analysts and tech enthusiasts have described as capable of further consolidating Nigeria's top ranking on AI deployment in education and entrepreneurship, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has officially launched the state’s AI-powered teaching and learning platform code named OgunLearn.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the public unveiling of the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network (OgunLearn) rated as first of its kind, took place on Wednesday at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Shortly after the public launch, the visibly elated Ogun Governor took to his personal social media handles to announce his excitement and pride about the development.

In his words, "Today, we officially unveiled OgunLEARN, the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network, as a major milestone in our digital transformation of education in Ogun State. 

"We reaffirmed that education remains the strongest foundation for sustainable development and must move beyond traditional classrooms to embrace innovation and technology.

He further stressed that, "OgunLEARN reflects our commitment to inclusive, quality education for every child, regardless of background or location.

"As the Education Capital of Nigeria, we see this not just as a platform, but as a deliberate investment in the future, providing curriculum-aligned digital content, supporting teachers, promoting self-paced learning, and nurturing creativity and critical thinking," he affirmed.

Prince Dapo Abiodun then took time to highlight Ogun State’s leadership in education reform, detailing a catalogue of digital initiatives put in place by his administration in the state targeted at ull digitalisation, continuous teacher training, improved EMIS, school rehabilitation, upgraded laboratories, modernised technical colleges, and initiatives such as Ogun Skills Fund, OgunEduCASH, OgunSchoLAR, OgunREHAB, OgunTEACh, and Ogun-DiPER.

Abiodun added that, "Collectively, these initiatives represent a deliberate system reform agenda that places learners, teachers and outcomes at the centre."

He also underscored the introduction of Artificial Intelligence education as a strategic investment in Ogun State’s socio-economic future, preparing our learners to innovate locally and compete globally" pledong that his administration will continue building the future of the gateway state together in partnership with relevant local and international partners.

OTN News further reports that the official launch of OgunLearn in attracted top government functionaries among whom were the Deputy Governor, Engineer Mrs.Noimot Salako-Oyedele, other top ranking Ogun government officials as well as the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu alongside heads of educational agencies in the state with a retinue of critical stakeholders in the education sector in attendance.

Speaking earlier during the public launch, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, recalled how the state leveraged technology during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure uninterrupted learning, noting that OgunLearn has further consolidated the state’s leadership in the education sector.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Evang. Olalekan Ifede described the AI-powered platform as the future of education and urged teachers across the state to fully utilise its capabilities to enhance teaching and learning.

OTN News observes that the public launch of OgunLearn is coming at a time when a recent report showed that Nigeria is emerging as a global leader in the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly in learning, work and entrepreneurship, according to a new report jointly released by Google and Ipsos.
