Barely 24 hours after a prominent Aquaculture and Fishery scholar at the Federal university of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Francisca Olubukola George died on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta(FUNAAB) has been thrown into a deep mourning mood as the death of the institution’s Director of Internal Audit, Mrs. Yewande Baiyewu was announced.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has been thrown into a mourning mood as the sad news of the death of the University's Director of Internal Audit, Mrs. Yewande Baiyewu was announced barely 24 hours after a prominent Aquaculture and Fishery scholar in the Federal University, Prof. Francisca Olubukola George died on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Mrs.Yewande Baiyewu passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, after a brief illness aged 57. 

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that Mrs. Baiyewu left behind a legacy marked by unwavering dedication, steadfast integrity, and exceptional professionalism in her service to the university.

A Chartered Accountant, seasoned Auditor and respected Administrator, Mrs. Baiyewu was appointed the Director, Directorate of Internal Audit, in December 2023. She was widely admired for her commitment to excellence, discipline, and transparency, playing a pivotal role in promoting financial accountability within the university.

Her passing has cast a shadow of grief over the University Community, with tributes pouring in from colleagues, staff, and management, who have been paying glowing tributes to her selfless service and upright character.

In his condolence message, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde described her death as a painful loss to the University, noting that Mrs. Baiyewu was not only a dependable professional but also a source of moral strength to many.

The Vice-Chancellor, therefore, prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul, extending his heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones.

Meanwhile, the Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, Arc. Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso has on behalf of the entire Management of the Polytechnic commiserated with the widower of the deceased, Arc. Olabisi Baiyewu who is the Director of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic's Centre for Entrepreneurship Development.

Arc. Jolaoso in his condolence message, described the deceased as a virtuous woman and pillar of support to her husband and the academic community prayed that God Almighty will grant the widower the fortitude to hear the irreplaceable loss, assuring him of necessary support from the Polytechnic throughout his bereavement experience.

OTN News further gathered that burial arrangements for the deceased top staff of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) as announced by the family are as follows: 

Christian Wake: Thursday 17th July, 2025, at RCCG Jesus Galaxy Zonal Headquarters, Behind Dheb Michael's Event Centre, Olomore, Abeokuta by 5 pm.

The final Burial service is scheduled to hold at the same venue on Friday, 18th July, 2025.

Deaconess Yewande Precious Baiyewu was survived by her husband, Arc.Dr. Olabisis Babatunde Baiyewu, who is the Director, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MAPCED) and her children.
