The Federal Road Safety Corps announced that it will now revoke the driver’s licenses of persistent offenders.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made this statement on Friday in Abuja while addressing the press about the results of the 2024 Sallah Special Patrol Operations, which took place from Friday, June 14, to Sunday, June 23.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija reports that Muhammad emphasized the growing need for collective participation and collaboration among all stakeholders.
He noted that the Corps has used this approach as a crucial tool for achieving the progress recorded during the specified period.
Muhammad, highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Inter-agency Joint Task Force in curbing the misconduct of trailer drivers as a significant part of their activities.
Muhammad in his speech mentioned that, "We are strictly enforcing regulations against the indiscriminate use of trailers for transporting passengers.
This involves vigorous public awareness campaigns, extensive media involvement, and proactive advocacy efforts conducted at motor parks nationwide."
Additionally, we have identified and mapped strategic routes across the country and deployed adequate personnel and resources to cover them effectively."
OPEN TELEVISION Naija further reports that the FRSC chief highlighted comprehensive engagements with leaders of various transport unions and security agencies, including state traffic management bodies and the FCT Department of Road Traffic Services.
Muhammad emphasized that these initiatives was intended to ensure every stakeholder, whether from the public or private sector, plays a crucial role in promoting highway safety.
He mentioned, "Building on these efforts, I want to inform you that we have expanded our enforcement of traffic regulations for articulated vehicles.
We have now initiated the prosecution of persistent offenders through Mobile Court operations across all 36 states and the FCT."
Moving forward, more severe actions, including the suspension and revocation of national driver’s licenses, will be implemented." Said, Corps Marshal.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija recalls that, before the start of the 2024 Sallah special patrol, the FRSC Corps Marshal discussed the goals for reducing road traffic crashes, including lowering fatalities, injuries, and traffic violations on the nation's highways.
