Former President Goodluck Jonathan Pleads With Wike and Fubara to Sheath Their Swords, Embrace Peace

RIVERS STATE, NIGERIA, Former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has made a passionate appeal to former Rivers State Governor, who is the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and the incumbent governor of the state to sheath their political swords and embrace peace for posterity's sake, considering the vantage significance of Rivers in the entire Niger Delta region of the country.
Dr.Jonathan made this truce breaking call in Rivers state on Monday during the flag-off of the construction of the N222.1 billion Trans-Kalabari road project which targets to traverse the three Kalabari local government areas of Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru and Degema, and other contiguous areas in the state.
The flag-off of the construction of the road is part of the first anniversary of the administration of Governor Fubara who took the oath of office on May 29, 2023.
The former President in his capacity as an elder statesman in the Southern region of the country made the passionate plea to the two political gladiators to allow peace to reign in the state which he described as the heart of the Niger Delta.
In his words:"I am appealing to Governor Fubara and Minister Wike to embrace peace. Rivers State is very critical to Nigeria. Rivers State is the heart of the Niger Delta. If Rivers State is destabilized, the whole Niger Delta will be destabilized. Leaders must know that nobody takes 100%. You must learn the principle of give and take.
He further added that he feels compelled to join the people of Rivers State and well-meaning Nigerians who have been calling for truce and ceasefire between Nyesom Wike and Governor Fubara.
The former President noted that there is a common saying that when the two elephants fight, it is the grasses that will suffer. If our Governor and Minister continue to fight, it's Rivers people that will suffer.
"So, we are calling on them to embrace themselves. One hand doesn't clap, it takes two hands to clap. So we want them to work together for the collective interest of Rivers State. Whatever has past has past. Let us move to a new future for the interest of Rivers State, Niger Delta and Nigeria.", the former President pled.
