OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Ogun State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the death of popular Nigerian singer, Adesina Afeez, widely known by his stage name, Destiny Boy, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding his demise intensify.

OTN News further reports as gathered that in a statement issued early this week, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a detailed and comprehensive probe.

According to the statement, “the Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

"The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing,” Oluseyi said.

OTN News had earlier reported that News of Destiny Boy’s death broke on Sunday following the circulation of distressing videos on social media showing his lifeless body being conveyed to a mortuary.

The footage, which sparked widespread grief among fans and colleagues, also fueled speculation about the cause of the singer’s death.

In one of the widely shared videos, the late artiste was seen lying in the back of a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears, a sight that further heightened public concern and prompted calls for clarity from authorities.

Amid the growing speculation, an unidentified associate of the singer later released a separate video attempting to address the circumstances surrounding his passing.

The individual claimed that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge before his death.

“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the associate said.

OTN News observes that Destiny Boy, born Afeez Adeshina, ventured into music at a young age and became widely known for his distinctive Fuji-infused sound.

He began his career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma.

He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song If, which gained massive attention on social media.

He also recorded notable Fuji-style covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor, further cementing his place in the Nigerian street-pop and Fuji music scene.

The late singer released several songs during his career, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.

Destiny Boy is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, whom they welcomed in November 2024.

The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
