FG Launches Talent City Initiative To Empower Youths

By: Olufemi Orunsola

The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, in collaboration with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), has unveiled the Talent City Initiative, a national program aimed at tackling youth unemployment by creating millions of technology jobs across Nigeria.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that while speaking at the public unveiling event of the initiative in Lagos, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani said the initiative supports President Tinubu’s vision of job creation, especially through the digital economy.

In his words, “There is a strong global shortage of technology professionals,” noting that “While many developed countries have ageing populations, Nigeria—with an average age of 16.9—is uniquely positioned to be the future global workforce.”

The President made it very clear when I came into office that he would commit efforts and resources to create one million technology jobs. For anyone following global developments today, it’s clear that there is no world without technology.

OTN News further reports that the DBI Talent City project will establish digital campuses nationwide, turning underutilized public and private infrastructure into high-productivity hubs for ICT training and employment.

In his own speech, DBI President, David Daser emphasized the long-term value of the project.

"This is not just about jobs. It’s about creating a strategic advantage—our graduates will have immediate access to opportunities, right here on our campuses", he noted.

Daser added that the initiative marks the first major collaboration between DBI and the Ministry directly aligned with one of the president’s core development goals: solving unemployment through innovation and technology.

The initiative is expected to serve as a launchpad for Nigeria’s youth to take on global digital roles, positioning the country as a hub of innovation in Africa.
