El-Rufai Opens TikTok Account Ahead of 2027 Elections, Secures Over 200,000 Followers Within 24 Hours

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Former Kaduna State Governor, and former All Progressive Congress (APC) member, Nasir El-Rufai, has launched a TikTok account in order to share his views on Nigerian politics and the agenda of his new party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

OTN News further reports that the former governor who announced this in a video earlier this week, invited users to engage with him through videos, comments and discussions on political affairs.

Speaking, he said, “This is my only and official TikTok page. Please join me for videos, comments and conversations on Nigerian politics, as well as the activities of our new party, Social Democratic Party (SDP). Welcome on board.”

OTN News observes that El-Rufai’s TikTok page gained significant traction within 24 hours, as at the time of filing this report, he had amassed over 200,000 followers.

OTN News further observes that in his TikTok bio, the former governor describes himself as an “accidental public servant, certified ruffler of feathers and deliberate SDP member.”

OTN News Ali observes that El-Rufai’s move to TikTok follows his recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and subsequent switch to the SDP on Monday.

OTN News had earlier reported that he criticised the ruling party, accusing it of abandoning its founding principles and prioritising personal financial gain over governance.

He said, “The APC has abandoned the principles that led to its establishment,” he said. “It has abandoned the community. Everyone is doing their own thing. Everyone is looking for money. The government has become a business government.”
