Barely five days after a similar raid at Itori, Ewekoro area of Ogun state, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 93 suspected internet fraudsters in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital during a raid at the premises of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library and a hotel belonging to the former Nigerian President.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the sting operation took place early on Sunday morning when men of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Commission stormed the Green Legacy Hotel, located within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), while a pool party was ongoing, causing significant panic as guests and partygoers fled in different directions.
In a viral video from the scene, which captured moments of chaos, sighted by OTN News, the operatives were seen arresting the suspects amid a tensed and chaotic situation.
OTN News gathered that no fewer than 20 luxury vehicles, mobile devices, and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered from the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the incident but declined to provide details.
He simply said, “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know".
Although the spokesperson for EFCC Lagos Zonal Command, Ayo Oyewole, said he was not immediately aware of the operation, the anti-graft agency confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
It would be recalled that earlier last week, operatives of the
Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the anti-graft Commission, had arrested about 55 suspected fraudsters at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, including one found in possession of two locally-made pistols, during a similar operation.
