EFCC Chairman Orders Arrests of Officers Involved in Viral Hotel Assault Video

Following public outrage that trailed the weird conduct of his men during a sting operation at Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has ordered the arrest of the officers involved in the incident.

OPEN TELEVISION Naija reports that the officers in question were captured in a footage video that has now gone viral, mercilessly beating up and physically assaulting a female hotel staff member during an early morning sting operation in which 117 suspected cyber criminals were reportedly arrested.

A netizen on X Twitter named Royal Spring @royal69399 had posted the video asking the rhetorical question: How Can Someone Convince Me This Is Not A Robbery?

The video quickly made the rounds and went viral on social media, greeted by public outrage and widespread condemnations of the conduct of the officers who were fully clad in EFCC jackets, with many netizens calling for appropriate disciplinary action to be taken against the concerned officers.

However, in a swift response, the Chairman of the Financial Crimes Commission, Olukoyede, has ordered the immediate arrest of the implicated officers. 

Open Television Naija further reports that the EFCC head has also mandated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the operation, which led to the detention of numerous suspects still undergoing profiling.

In his statement, Olukoyede reassured the public of the EFCC’s unwavering commitment to professionalism and adherence to the rule of law.

“We will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our ranks,” he said, assuring that any officer found guilty of unprofessional behaviour would face strict disciplinary measures.

Nigerians eagerly await the outcome of the investigations and subsequent actions as the media keeps the public abreast of further development on the case which many people have said could speak volumes about the commitment of the commission to ethical conduct in its modus operandi.
