America's President-elect, Donald Trump, has appointed 27-year-old Karoline Leavitt as the next White House press secretary, marking her return to the administration after serving as an assistant press secretary during Trump’s first term.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that Trump praised Leavitt’s communication skills and toughness in a statement announcing her selection.
Her appointment makes her the youngest individual to ever hold the role.
“Karoline is an exceptional communicator with a proven track record. I am confident she will excel at delivering our message to the American people,” Trump said.
A conservative from New Hampshire, Leavitt has been a prominent figure in Trump’s 2024 campaign, acting as a spokesperson at rallies and court appearances.
She shares Trump’s “America First” agenda and has often criticized traditional media.
During a Fox News podcast, Leavitt reflected on her role in combating misinformation, saying, “There are many journalists who no longer focus on true journalism, and we face them daily.”
OTN News recalls that Leavitt’s political journey began during Trump’s 2016 campaign when she worked as a student assistant for Fox News during a presidential debate held at her college, Saint Anselm in New Hampshire.
She later became a columnist for her campus newspaper, challenging identity politics and expressing her belief in merit-based success.
Her post-White House career included an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2022 and serving as communications director for Congresswoman, Elise Stefanik, Trump’s pick for UN ambassador.
Reflecting on Trump’s second-term ambitions, Leavitt noted his greater political experience, saying, “He is more aware of the ‘deep state’ and the efforts to derail his success.”
Leavitt’s appointment underscores her meteoric rise in conservative politics and signals her pivotal role in shaping the messaging of the Trump administration’s return to power.
