D'Banj Opens Up On His Church Background Says 'I Was Groomed in the Choir, My Father Was A Deacon, Mum a Deaconess'

Maverick Nigerian music artiste Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, stage named D'Banj but fondly called the Koko Master by his fans, has opened up about his strong Christian background, revealing that he was a "church boy" who played harmonica in the choir. 

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the popular Nigerian artiste who made the revelations while speaking on the MIC ON PODCAST, hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, revealed that his father is a deacon and his mother is a deaconess, a personal aspect of his musical life not generally known by many of his fans who only know himas the "Koko Master."

D'Banj further explained that he gave a testimony at Canaanland after winning his first MTV Europe Music Award in 2007 to let people know the source of his success, affirming that what God cannot do does not exist.

He also gave credit to his strong Christian background as the real preparation ground for the success he has recorded in the music world.

In his words, "I was a church boy, 100%. I was in a choir. If you listen to my first album, I actually played an interlude where I played the harmonica because I played the harmonica. And I went to offer the services to, I think it was Faith Tabernacle Youth Choir. And then I was in the choir. They told me to be playing the harmonica in the back. So I started from playing that before I now went into music. In 2007, when I got my first EMA, that's the first MTV Europe Awards, I had made a promise that I would give a testimony. I told God that for us to do that, and I came back and we went to Canaanland, and I gave a testimony and I let people know where the source is from and where the foundation is. You're a Bishop Oyedepo boy? I'm in the church now. What are you talking about? My dad is a deacon and my mom is a deaconess. That's why what God cannot do does not exist," he stated.
