By: Israel Adeleke

Nigeria artiste whose Uncle, the Osun state Governor is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called out the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) over what he described as unnecessary hitches in the election processes of Edo State governorship election.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA OTN (News) gathered that Davido called out the electoral commission over it's failure to swiftly address issues faced by voters arising from the commission's systems, making reference to his previous experiences during the Osun State gubernatorial elections.

Davido, on Saturday wrote on his X handle, “Bruh, #inecnigeria fix up! We can’t continue like this… wtf.

He continued by justifying the basis for his concerns and interests in the smooth running of the Edo State gubernatorial elections, stating that,“My mum is from Edo, for those wondering why I’m interested in the election, but we as Nigerians should be concerned. #inecnigeria shame on you. I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us.”

Davido’s outburst came after he responded to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Frank Mba who had advised, during a Television interview on Channels Television that voters should return home immediately after casting their votes.

OTN News recalls that DIG Frank Mba, during the Channels TV intervie in the early hours of Saturday, advised residents to exercise their civic duty and then head home after voting. He also announced a restriction on vehicular movement from 6 a.m. to 6 pm on Saturday.

In Mba's words, “If you’re not accredited to participate in the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets. Cast your vote and return home; it’s your civic duty.”

However, Davido reacted to the DIG's statement with a differing opinion, expressed via a tweet in which he laughed off the DIG's advisory, asking a rhetorical question, “Loooooooool, go where???”

Davido, whose mother hails from Edo State, had earlier declared his support for the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the lead-up to the election.

Meanwhile, OTN News reports that the Electoral umpire in a swift response to the hitches of delayed take availability of election materials in some polling units in the state, had, on its official X handle announced an extension of time in affected places on during the election, in a State signed by Mohammed Haruna, a National Commissioner & Member, Information and Voter Education Committee, stating that, "The Commission continues to monitor the ongoing governorship election in Edo State from our situation room at the National Headquarters in Abuja."

He also added that "Our monitoring indicates early commencement of polls in many Polling Units, but there are also reports of late commencement in some locations."

"To ensure that no voter is disenfranchised, the Commission wishes to reiterate that, in line with our Regulations and Guidelines, voting will be extended wherever it commenced late and will continue until the last voter on the queue who arrived at the Polling Unit by 2.30pm has voted.", the statement said.

It concluded that "Accordingly, we have drawn the attention of our office in Edo State to ensure that, where necessary, there is adequate power supply from our back-up electric generators in the affected Polling Units or Ward Collation Centres"
