OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio of the All Progressive Congress, APC, has endorsed Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno's re-election bid, less than 24 hours after the opposition governor publicly backs President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
OTN News further reports that Governor Eno, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), surprised many earlier this week when he announced his support for President Tinubu, leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a rare cross-party alliance.
OTN News observes that the endorsement appears to have set off a reciprocal gesture from Akpabio, a prominent APC figure.
Speaking earlier this week, a public lecture hosted by the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Uyo, Akpabio commends Eno’s bold political stance, describing it as unprecedented.
Represented by Saviour Enyiekere, Chairperson of the National Assembly Service Commission, the Senate President pledges the support of the APC for Eno’s 2027 re-election campaign.
“Sir, for doing that, I am a member of the All Progressives Congress. I am speaking for the elders and to tell you we are also going to support you for a second term,” Akpabio states, drawing applause from the audience, including the governor himself.
Akpabio adds, “We will support you in whatever aspiration you have. Yesterday, you broke a record by being the first opposition governor to declare support for a second term bid of Mr Tinubu.”
The occasion also serves as a celebration of Governor Eno’s recent academic milestone. An alumnus of the University of Uyo, the governor recently completed a doctorate in Political Science with a focus on Public Administration. He delivers the keynote speech titled “Leading Economic Development in Sub-Nationals of the Nigerian Federation: The Arise Agenda.
