Calamity Averted As Nigerian Aeroplane Veers Off Runway After Landing at Port Harcourt

It is technically referred to as a runaway excursion but it is an occurrence capable of sending waves of disastrous shocks to the spines of Flight passengers. Barely two months after an Air Peace flight decimated a large antelope while taxiing at Asaba International Airport in Delta State, another Air Peace Aeroplane has veered off the runway, causing panic to passengers.

Calamity was averted on Sunday morning when an air peace aircraft operating Flight P47190 from Lagos to Port Harcourt veered off the runway upon landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport, sending waves of shock to passengers, who eventually disembarked unhurt.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that Air Peace has confirmed the incident in a statement signed by the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-whiskey Efe, on Sunday, which reads, “Air Peace confirms that its Flight P47190, operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt this morning, had a runway excursion after landing safely at the Port Harcourt International Airport.”

The statement revealed that the aircraft “veered slightly off the runway without any damage," confirming that all passengers on board disembarked “safely and calmly. No injuries were reported."

Meanwhile, the airline concludes that it is reassuring the public of its dedication to operational safety.

“We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations,” the statement concluded.

OTN News recalls that barely two months ago, precisely on May 11, an Air Peace aircraft was grounded at the Asaba International Airport in Delta State after it collided with a large antelope while taxiing on the runway.

The impact decimated the animal and rendered the aircraft on the ground, causing flight disruptions.

Back then, the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Michael Achimugu, while commenting on the plane's encounter with the wild animal had clarified that such events are beyond the control of the airline, they do not absolve operators from their responsibilities to passengers.
