OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu land, Alayeluwa Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona GCON, has paid a private visit to the President, Commander-in-Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at his Ikoyi, Lagos, residence, a visit, insider sources have linked to an advanced move towards the actualization of the creatiin of Ijebuland State.

OTN News further reports that the private visit which was held behind closed doors, was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday from the Aafin Awujale and signed by the Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, Aremo Tunde Oladunjoye.

Although the statement did not give any clue on the subject of discussion between the monarch and President Bola Tinubu during the closed-door meeting, OTN News gathered that moves towards the creation of Ijebuland State was a core mission of the nonagenarian monarch who hardly travels out of his kingdom in recent times due to his age related status.

According to the statement, "Awujale during the visit expressed his appreciation to the President and the Federal Government for the conferment of the second highest national honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on him on May 10, 2024."

OTN News recalls that President Tinubu conferred the second highest honour on the Paramount Yoruba traditional ruler during the celebration of his 90th birthday anniversary and 64th anniversary on the throne as the longest reigning first class monarch in Nigeria.

President Tinubu was represented on the occasion by his Vice, Senator Kashim Shettima.

OTN News further recalls that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his bid for the presidency, started his nationwide consultations from the Awujale and after emerging President, he has gone back to Aafin Awujale, Ijebu Ode, as he promised, to show appreciation to the popular monarch.
