A mob in Agege, Lagos has killed a yet-to-be-identified Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on Saturday morning.

According to Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, he said initial investigations showed that the motorcyclist ran into the truck, leading to his death.

The officer, part of a team responding to a distress call about an accident involving a commercial motorcyclist and a truck at WEMCO junction, Mobil Road, Agege, was attacked by irate motorcyclists.

The riders reportedly demanded the truck be set on fire after one of their own was fatally struck during the accident.

However, while the police tried to remove the truck from the scene, they were confronted by the riders, resulting in the ASP sustaining a fatal head injury. The truck driver managed to escape.

Hundeyin confirmed that five suspects have been arrested, and efforts are underway to apprehend more individuals involved in the attack.

In conclusion, he described the officer's death as "unnecessary and unjustifiable."
