Another Zoo Worker Mauled to Death By A Lion in Nigeria
Barely 7 months after a Zoo worker at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Zoological garden was killed by a male lion, another worker at the Wildlife Park of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, (OOPL), Abeokuta, Babaji Daule, has been mauled to death by a lion in Nigeria.

Barely 7 months after a Zoo worker at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Zoological garden was killed by a male lion at the, another 35-year-old worker at the Wildlife Park of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, (OOPL), Abeokuta, Babaji Daule, has been mauled to death by a lion.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the tragic incident during which the carnivorous aninal killed its handler, Babaji Daule, occurred in the early hours of Saturday September 28, 2024.
OTN News further gathered that the tragic event was reported by the Chief Security Officer of OOPL around 7:40am.
According to available information, Daule, a 35-year-old from Bauchi State, was attacked while attempting to feed the lion at the Zoological Garden.
The handler reportedly failed to properly secure the locks and barricade of the lion's enclosure, which allowed the lion to escape and fatally injure him.
The victim sustained severe injuries to the neck, leading to his death.
The lion was shot to release its grip on him while the corpse of the Wildlife Park worker was thereafter taken to the Ijaye General Hospital mortuary.
Although the mobile line of Obasanjo's media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi was not reachable as at the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, has confirmed the incident.
"A deadly incident involving a wild animal attack has been reported by the Area Commander metro. On September 28, 2024, at about 7:40 hrs the Chief Security Officer of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library informed the divisional police officer that a 35-year-old man named Babaji Daule from Bauchi State, who is a trained handler of a male lion at the Zoological Garden in Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Abeokuta, tragically lost his life,” she said.
OTN News recalls that a similar incident involving the killing of a Wildlife worker by a lion occured earlier in the year when the veterinary technologist in charge of the Zoological Garden of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, was killed by a lion on the campus on Monday, February 19, 2024.
