Amosun Warns Yayi: Stop Claiming Credit for Ogun Projects You Didn’t Facilitate

Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has issued a stern warning to Senator Solomon Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, urging him to stop taking credit for projects he did not facilitate in the state.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that Amosun who raised concerns over claims made by the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, specifically cited the Ake Pavilion project, located within the Alake Palace in Abeokuta, accusing Yayi of misrepresenting facts about the initiative.

According to him, “Our attention has been drawn to a Library construction project at the Ewang Estate Extension, Abeokuta, facilitated by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi). However, the project board erected at the site misleadingly reads: ‘Renovation of Ake Pavilion Roofing and other Facilities, Ogun State,’”

Dismissing the alleged claim, Amosun clarified that the Ake Pavilion project is his personal gift to the people of Abeokuta, entirely funded through his private resources.

Furthermore, According to Amosun, Yayi’s alleged misrepresentation raises questions about the Federal Appropriation budget allocated for the Ake Pavilion project.

He questioned, “If the library project was truly facilitated by Yayi, why does the inscription on the project board describe an entirely different project?”

OTN News further reports that in a statement titled ‘Setting the Records Straight,’ Amosun reiterated that the library project has no link to the ongoing Ake Pavilion construction, which is now 95 percent complete.

The former governor emphasized that the Ake Pavilion project, conceptualized during his tenure in 2019 and commenced in 2020, was never part of his constituency projects as a Senator (2019-2023).

Providing further details, Amosun described the Ake Pavilion as a 3,000-capacity amphitheater with an open performance area, three banquet halls, a museum showcasing Abeokuta’s historical quarters, and shops for local artifacts, books, and Adire fabric. He affirmed that all funding came from his personal finances.

While acknowledging the importance of Federal Government-funded projects in Ogun State, Amosun stressed the need for honesty in public service. He advised Senator Olamilekan to ensure transparency in communicating his contributions to Ogun residents.

To support his claims, Amosun, however, attached photographic evidence of both the project board at the library site and the Ake Pavilion project.
