OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that, in reference to the recent drama that happened between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and a young naval officer, Yerima, in Abuja, the retired members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the aegis of the Coalition of Concerned Military Veterans called on President Bola Tinubu to sack or redeploy the Minister.
OTN News further reports as gathered that, the coalition, who stated this in Kaduna at a press conference comprises retired generals and other senior military officers drawn from the Army, Air Force, and Navy, stressed that if the president fails to buy into their demand, the force will occupy the FCT ministry until Wike is removed.
OTN News observes that this demand is coming days after the FCT Minister engaged in oral dispute with a naval officer in Abuja over a land which was said to belong to a retired officer.
OTN News further had earlier reported that, the stand-off between Wike and Yarima following a row over the ownership of a piece of land being guarded by some armed military officers led by Yerima, on the instruction of a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo (rtd.).
OTN News recalls that, Wike had alleged that the ex-Chief of naval staff illegally took over the land.
Subsequently, Yerima obstructed the minister and his officers from taking over the land, claiming that, he was acting based on orders.
OTN News further observes that this bold move by the young officer led to a short disagreement, in which the Minister left the location in anger.
However, in response to the incident, the coalition warned that should President Tinubu fail to act, it would mobilize and occupy the FCT ministry until Wike is removed.
The veterans made the demand at a press conference in Kaduna, where they described the minister’s conduct as “demeaning”, “unacceptable”, and “a direct insult to the Armed Forces and the Commander-in-Chief”.
