The Former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has expressed concern over the increasing sense of hopelessness in Nigeria prompting to call on several Political Leaders to come together and oppose President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija gathered that the former APC Chieftain, Salihu Lukman specifically named some leadersthat needs to join forces together to unseat Tinubu to include: Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, urging them to consider whether they will let their personal political ambitions hinder Nigeria's democratic progress.
Lukman questioned why these leaders shouldn't aim to be remembered as those who united in Nigeria's time of need, creating a cohesive political front that could transform the nation's democracy and counter the 'state capture' by small corrupt groups who exploit government decisions for personal gain.
He lamented that due to the advanced stage of 'state capture' at the Federal level, many political leaders, including key opposition figures like Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are operating in isolation from one another.
Lukman pointed out that prominent APC leaders such as Former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola have been sidelined from President Tinubu’s administration, effectively rendering them political orphans on the fringes of Nigerian politics.
He observed that while there are some political activities around these leaders, they have not yet committed to building robust political parties capable of challenging the APC and President Tinubu, which is essential for securing the future of Nigerian democracy.
Lukman prayed for divine intervention to unite all patriotic political leaders across all parties, including the marginalized APC leaders, and to endow them with the selflessness and dedication needed to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure elected leaders and governments at all levels remain accountable to the citizens.
He further stated that although some officials in President Tinubu’s administration have attempted to explain the current hardships faced by Nigerians by blaming the poor economy inherited from Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the reality is that both administrations are under the APC.
Lukman noted that the APC initially gained popularity due to the failings of the PDP. He pointed out that the challenges faced today are similar to those during the PDP's rule.
"If we are to be honest, the failings of the PDP in 2015 were less severe than what we are experiencing under the APC in 2024," Lukman finalised.
