OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that as the 2027 Presidential election is fast approaching, the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that it has officially recognised the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress, setting aside Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai.

OTN News further reports that the new development which was announced earlier this week by the electoral body, followed a period of internal restructuring within the party, which culminated in the emergence of new national officers aimed at repositioning the ADC ahead of future electoral contests.

OTN News observes that among the new principal officers recognised by the electoral body, Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate under the people democracy party, PDP; Peter Obi, the former Anambra state governor and former presidential candidate under the umbrella of the Labour party, LP; and Nasir El-Rufai, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria and who was also the former Kaduna state governor, were omitted from the list.

OTN News further observes that the principal officers now officially acknowledged by INEC alongside Mark, include Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary; Dr. Ibrahim Mani as National Treasurer; Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary; and Professor Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor as National Legal Adviser.

OTN News, however, observes that with this formal endorsement, the ADC leadership is expected to commence a nationwide reconciliation and mobilisation effort, as the party seeks to strengthen its presence across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
