Contrary to the expectations of many Nigerians who have become used to the usual experience of fuel price hike or scarcity during the yuletide, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has again reduced the price of its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N899.50k per litre, as part of corporate efforts to reduce costs of transportation for Nigerians ahead of Christmas and New Year holiday.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the new price reduction was announced via a statement by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, Mr Anthony Chiejina, on Thursday.

OTN News recalls that Dangote refinery, a privately-owned oil refinery, had earlier, lowered its petrol price to N970 per litre in November, 2024.

According to Chiejina, the reduction was designed to reduce transportation costs for Nigerians during the festive period when people usually travel to spend time with their loved ones.

He further revealed that the company also introduced a special offer to further benefit consumers.

“In addition to the holiday discount, Dangote Petroleum Refinery is allowing consumers to purchase an additional litre of fuel on credit for every litre bought on cash basis.

“To alleviate transport costs during this holiday season, Dangote Refinery is offering a holiday discount on PMS.

“From today, our petrol will be available at N899.50 per litre at our truck loading gantry or SPM.

“Furthermore, for every litre purchased on cash basis, consumers will have the opportunity to buy another litre on credit backed by a bank guarantee from Access Bank, First Bank or Zenith Bank,” he revealed.

Chiejina maintained that the yuletide price reduction by Dangote Refinery is to show appreciation for the support of Nigerians for the company.

He further affirmed that the refinery was committed to ensuring that Nigerians would have access to quality petroleum products ŵhich would be competitively priced and environmental and engine-friendly.

Meanwhile, OTN News reports that a cross section of Nigerians have taken to the social media to express their varying opinions about the development.

While some social media users have expressed mixed reactions such as excitement, appreciation, skeptism and outright call to MNPCL to follow suit and do the needful, the news of a reduction in the company's price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), by Dangote refinery has generally been perceived as a positive development that bears testimony to the preference of a competitive market to a monopoly.
