The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fashakin has commended Nollywood veterans and members of the Nigerian creative community, noting that the country owes them so much for their strategic use of the industry to project Nigeria's image positively, preach unity and also minimizing crashes on Nigerian roads.

Corps Commander Akinwunmi gave this commendations during the book launch of the pioneer State Coordinator of the Celebrity Special Marshals unit of the FRSC in Ogun state, Hon. Kehinde Soaga in Abeokuta on Friday.

According to him, the FRSC in Nigeria deeply appreciates the Invaluable contributions of Creative Celebrities towards the achievement of one of the core mandates of the corps in Nigeria, which is advocating attitudinal changes among road users across the country.

Corps Commander Akinwunmi said, "We owe Nigerian entertainers so much for keeping us together", adding that "Celebrity Special Marshals to whom the book author belongs have made significant contributions not only to keeping the country united but also towards effecting positive attitudinal changes in Nigerian road users over the years using their public goodwill and unique creative influence to package and execute road safety campaigns.

The Sector Commander however appealed to Celebrity Special Marshals as well as other Nollywood Directors, actors and actresses who have not joined the CSM Unit of the FRSC to endeavor to consciously correct the worrisome attitude of many Nigerians, who always focus on making and posting videos of accident scenes instead of rescuing victims of such road crashes, giving them first responders attention and possibly contacting the toll free emergency line of the FRSC, 122.

Similarly, the National Head, CSM Unit of the FRSC, Julie Chi-Nwaoha who had earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Ogun Sector Commander in his office at Ibara, Abeokuta said she had to move down to Abeokuta from Lagos to grace the occasion, adding that, "We have been chosen from different works of life with some of us from the Movie, Music and Media industry respectively."

She noted that the CSM has significantly assisted the FRSC in engaging the public through Road safety advocacy and campaigns.

In her words, "We use our individual talents and skills, and some times collective platforms to reach broader audiences to inspire behavioral changes thereby ultimately reducing Road Traffic crashes and fatalities in the country, noting that the Unit is over a decade in existence.

She further revealed that the CSM Unit of the FRSC is already doing more than road safety awareness, advocacy and media campaigns, noting that the unit now undertakes road crashes first responders training for it's members who are in turn, deployed to train truck drivers and other target groups in the road transportation sector on emergency first responding.
