The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) for recognizing Ogun among Nigeria’s top-performing states in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), noting that Ogun state is among the few states that can thrive without Federal Support.

The Governor said this while speaking at the unveiling and commissioning of Olumo Courts service apartments in Abeokuta on Saturday.

Governor Abiodun who emphasized that the state’s growing IGR reflects its economic resilience and strategic growth, noted that his administration’s policies have enabled Ogun to surpass several states in revenue generation, positioning it as a model of economic stability.

He said “According to a recent report by the National Bureau of Statistics, Ogun State generated more revenue than five states in one zone and six in another in 2023.

“We are among the few states that can thrive without federal support,” he stated, attributing the success to the state’s reduced dependency on federal allocations.

Furthermore, highlighting Olumo Courts, a new luxury residential project in Ibara, Abeokuta, the governor described it as a significant addition that improves residents’ quality of life and enhances the urban landscape.

He acknowledged the initial criticism of the urban renewal projects in Ibara’s Government Reserved Area (GRA) but affirmed the administration’s commitment to urban development.

He remarked “We initiated the Urban Renewal of Abeokuta, starting in Ibara GRA, despite facing substantial criticism. The achievements of Olumo Courts reaffirm that we are on the right track."

Governor Abiodun celebrated Olumo Courts as a collaborative effort championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Featuring 36 smart apartments with high-end amenities like a swimming pool, tennis court, and gym.

The project is designed to stimulate job creation and attract investment, particularly from the diaspora.

The governor however urged citizens to be inspired by his transformative housing initiatives, which have created over 4,000 housing units in the past five years, further strengthening the state’s economic foundation.

Also, a member of the Olumo Courts development team, Prince Rotimi Martins, described the estate as the first smart city project in the GRA, symbolizing Ogun’s growth and investment appeal.

On his part, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, praised the project as an example of environmental enhancement fostering development.

Similarly, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Obasanjo, highlighted Abeokuta’s unique geographical features, which she believes make it an attractive and welcoming city.
