Academic activities at the Polytechnic Ibadan and other technical tertiary institutions in Oyo state, were grounded as a joint action committee of unions picketed and shut down the gate of the polytechnic

Open Television Naija reports that all academic activities at the state polytechnic were earlier today shut down as a joint action committee of all unions of the technical tertiary institution picketed the Main Gate of the Polytechnic.

The Chairmen of all three Unions in the institution led staff members in the industrial action.

The Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Dr. Kolawole Adebayo Lawal who led the team made it known to Open Television that the industrial action was not targeted at fighting with the government of Oyo rather it was a necessary move after all previous industrial tools such as correspondences, dialogues and multiple ultimatums failed to yield desirable results.

He further argued that, the unions are simply appealing to the people-loving and welfaristic governor of Oyo state to look into the issues perturbing the unions namely: failure of the government to appoint Governing Council for the Polytechnic withdrawal of the services of a consultant for the Polytechnic Ibadan, who is alleged to be mismanaging the resources of the polytechnic, urgent employment of casualized staff as well as payment of the 25%, 35% salary increment to staff of Polytechnics in Oyo state like their counterparts in the university are being paid.

Another union Chairman present are the event, Mr.Abiodun Adekunle of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Mr.Sanmori, Chairman, Non Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (NASU) corroborated the position of the ASUP Chairman, noting that, the unions are mainly appealing to governor Seyi Makinde to extend his arms of benevolence, magnimity and passion for education which he has extended to other tertiary institutions in Oyo state to the Polytechnics.

As Joint Action Committee of Unions of Technical Tertiary Institutions in Oyo State Appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde Over Sundry Issues Like Payment of 25%, 35% Salary Increment, Appointment of Governing Councils, Mismanagement of The Polytechnic Ibadan By A Consultant.
