Tears Flow as Mother Allegedly Beats 11-year-old Daughter With Pestle to Death Over Missing N100 She Receives During Sallah Celebration

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the residents in the Tukur area of Zaria, Kaduna State, was thrown in tears and pains after a woman identified as Khadija allegedly killed her 11-year-old daughter, Fadila, following a missing ₦100 note she (mother) received during the sallah celebration.

OTN News further reports as gathered that Khadija allegedly beat her daughter with a pestle after accusing her of stealing ₦100 she received during Sallah celebrations.

OTN News learnt that the incident sparked outrage in the neighbourhood, with some residents refusing to attend the girl’s funeral, citing what they called a grave injustice.

A woman in the area who spoke with local reporters, claimed, “This is not the first time she has beaten the girl. Whenever there’s a problem with her hawking, she beats her like she’s not even her child.”

Another neighbour added, “We refused to pray over her because justice was denied. Everyone acted like nothing seriously happened.”

Subsequently, the woman’s husband, Malam Mustapha Musa, who also spoke with local reporters, said he was not at home when the incident occurred.

“I came back to meet the situation. I don’t know how it happened," he said.

OTN News further learnt that Fadila’s father who took her body to their hometown in Kano State for burial and funeral rites, said, “I’ve left everything to God."

Khadija, however, denied intentionally killing her daughter, she explained, “Yes, I beat her, but I didn’t mean to kill her. It was only the children at home at the time,” she said.

A local vigilante official said they initially invited Khadija and her husband for questioning but stepped aside after the police arrived to take over the case.

The Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansur Hassan, is yet to make comments on the issue.
