The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as Eid-el-Fitr following the sighting of the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan across various locations in Nigeria.

Announcing the development on Saturday night, the Sultan, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

“With the sighting of the moon, Sunday, March 30, 2025, will be the 1st of Shawwal 1446 AH, marking the day for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration,” the Sultan stated.⁸

He urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of patience, piety, and charity beyond the holy month, emphasizing that the essence of Ramadan should reflect in their daily lives.

According to the Sultan, “Ramadan is a time of reflection, devotion, and sacrifice. As we celebrate Eid, let us not forget the lessons learned during the holy month and continue in acts of kindness, unity, and charity."

He therefore called on Nigerians to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and progress, encouraging them to observe Eid prayers peacefully in line with Islamic teachings.

“Our country needs prayers and unity more than ever. Let us come together in the spirit of Eid to pray for stability, prosperity, and the well-being of all citizens,” he said.

Meanwhile, security agencies across the country have assured of adequate measures to ensure a peaceful and secure celebration at various prayer grounds.
