As part of moves to commemorate the children's day in a remarkable and impactful way, the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu has promised to reintroduce young farmers club in schools across the country.

The first lady made the announcement at an event organised by her office to commemorate the 2024 Children’s Day celebration held at the banquet hall of the State House, Abuja on Monday, where she gifted all the schools that participated in the event the N10 million each.

According to her, the Young Farmers Club will soon be launched in state-owned primary and secondary schools across the country.

She further revealed that the initiative is part of efforts to encourage farming among the young population in the country.

She said each child will have a garden in their school which will be grown and nurtured by them, adding that awards will be presented to the school with the best farm.

The award of excellence in school farming, she noted, will include equipping the school’s library, provision of laboratory facilities among others.

Open Television Naija reports that a total of sixteen primary and secondary schools drawn from across the Federal Capital Territory took part in the event which featured cultural displays depicting the diverse rich cultures in Nigeria.

Each of the schools received a demo cheque of N10 million presented by the wife of the President.

Earlier, the First lady appealed to Nigerians to show more compassion, love and care for Nigerian children, describing them as the nation's greatest asset.
