Shina Peters Reveals Why He Faked Madness

Veteran Afro-Juju musician, Sir Shina Peters, has revealed why he once pretended to be mentally unstable in public, noting thatbit was all a plannwd strategy to win back the hearts of fans after facing backlash for leaving his former mentor, Prince Adekunle.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Shinamania crooner made the disclosure while speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast.

The “Ace” crooner said his decision to part ways with Prince Adekunle’s band was widely misunderstood and sparked anger among fans, who accused him of betraying his father figure for money.

Peters further explained that his record label and some influential media professionals came up with a dramatic plan to change the public narrative by making him appear as a mentally unstable person.

In his words,"People protested against me when I left Prince Adekunle’s band because they believed I left my father figure for money. Then the owner of my record label and some media heads came up with an idea."

According to him, the plan involved altering his appearance and recording staged scenes in public to make him look destitute.

“They asked me to braid my hair for three days without loosening it, then I wore torn-up clothes. After that, they took me to Oyingbo Market to buy ewedu while recording everything. I didn’t even know what they were up to,” he recounted.

The charade, he added, continued in Badagry, where he was filmed behaving erratically at a construction site handled by Julius Berger.

“They told me to act like a madman and eat in public. All of that was done to change people’s narratives and earn empathy from fans,” he said.

Peters noted that although the plan seemed strange at the time, it successfully shifted public perception and helped him regain acceptance as a solo artiste.

The music legend, known for his energetic stage performances and hit albums like Ace and Shinamania, has continued to inspire generations of Nigerian musicians with his innovative Afro-Juju sound.
