Remo Stars Wins First-Ever NPFL Title, Make History as Ogun Governor, Abiodun Applauds Their Efforts

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun has commended the effort of the Remo Stars Football Club who clinched its first-ever Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, April 27.
OTN News further reports that the team victory marks the first time a privately-owned football team has won the NPFL championship since 1996, earning Remo Stars a place in the prestigious CAF Champions League.
Abiodun, in a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade praised the team’s outstanding performance, hailing it as an “unprecedented feat in the annals of Ogun State.”
Abiodun who further commended the players, coaching crew, and management of Remo Stars for their resilience, discipline, and patriotic drive., added, “the age-long perseverance and consistency of the Remo Stars Football team have eventually paid off at the national level and to the admiration of every Nigerian, including our amiable President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu."
Highlighting the club’s trajectory since its promotion to the NPFL four years ago, the Governor noted that Remo Stars has continually demonstrated excellence and the “profound trait of Ogun State as the first in all areas of success.”
Governor Abiodun emphasized that the team’s determination reflects the values underpinning the ISEYA mantra—his administration’s blueprint for inclusive transformation and development.
He further called on other local clubs across the country to emulate the tenacity and dedication shown by Remo Stars in order to elevate the standard and reputation of Nigerian club football.
“This remarkable accomplishment by Remo Stars is not just a victory for Ogun State but a moment of pride for Nigerian football,” the statement concluded.
