Ramadan Season: Sultan Declares Friday as Date to Begin New Moon Search

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that as the season of Ramadan approaches, the Sokoto Sultanate Council says, Friday 28th February, 2025, marks the start of the search for the new Moon of Ramadan 1446AH.

OTN News further reports that this is contained in a statement signed by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu.

According to the statement, It calls on Muslims to look out for the new Moon of Ramadan on Friday and report any sighting to their nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan of Sokoto and President General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar for formal announcement.

The statement however, adds that if the new Crescent is sighted the following Phone numbers below could be contacted for onward communication to the Sultanate Council.

OTN News observes that Ramadan is believed to be an acronym for Remember Allah Morning, Afternoon, Day and Night.

Ramadan is a holy month of worship, study of the Quran, prayer, and fasting. Ramadan occurs during the month in which Muslims believe the Quran began to be revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. It is a joyous celebration for Muslims and Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
