Police IGP Orders Watertight Security, Visibility Policing During Easter Celebrations

As part of strategic efforts towards ensuring that Nigerians, across the entire length and breadth of the country, experience a peaceful Easter celebration, the Nigerian Police Force has ordered watertight security and visisility policing during the christian celebrations.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that this directive, given to all Police formations, was made available by the Force Public Relations Officer and Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Thursday.
The statement read : “As Christians across Nigeria and the world prepare for the 2025 Easter Celebration, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., has extended his warmest felicitations to the Christian community on the occasion. The IGP acknowledges the significance of the celebration, which symbolizes hope, renewal, and sacrifice; and encourages Christians to reflect on these values and continue to promote peace, unity, and goodwill in their communities.
”The IGP hereby directs Commissioners of Police across all State Commands and Formations, and their supervising Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, to enhance visibility policing, extended vigilance, and intelligence gathering to ensure a safe and secure festive celebration for all citizens. He also emphasizes the critical importance of enhanced patrol and strategic deployment of personnel to places of worship, recreation centres, major highways, and other public spaces to deter criminal activities and provide swift responses to any security challenges that may arise.
While seeking the cooperation of the citizens in providing credible information and ensuring moderation during celebrations, the police authorities charged drivers to avoid overspeeding and recklessness “The IGP calls on members of the public to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing the breakdown of law and order during this period. Citizens are therefore urged to remain security conscious, act with moderation, and avoid reckless driving on highways during the festive period and beyond.”
The statement further reaffirmed the readiness of the police towards hitch-free celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Ogun state Police command has announced its adoption of eagle-eye advanced monitoring and surveillance around perceived crime black spots in the state during the Easter festivities in the state.
The Force Spokesperson in the state, CSP Omolola Odutola, who made this known via a press release sighted by OTN News on Thursday, revealed that as the Federal Government has declared public holidays on Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, for Easter celebrations, the Ogun State Police Command assures all citizens of robust security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful holiday.
CSP Oxutola further announced that, "A comprehensive operational plan has been implemented, with increased police visibility and patrols at key locations, including Sagamu Interchange, Long Bridge, Ijebu Ode-Benin Highway, Sango Ota, Idiroko, border towns, Alapako, financial institutions, worship centers, government facilities, tertiary institutions, and VIP protection zones.
She added that, "The Ogun State Police Command is working in close collaboration with other security agencies to maintain law and order for the benefit of all law-abiding citizens. With an expected influx of visitors during the holidays, uniformed officers will conduct stop-and-search operations in vulnerable areas to enhance safety.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, urges residents, visitors and fun-seekers to exercise moderation, prioritize personal safety, and report any suspicious activities promptly. Citizens are encouraged to secure their homes and travel with caution.
