Police Confirm Arrest of Ooni's Ex-Queen, Naomi, 7 Others For Deaths of Over 30 Minors in Ibadan Children Funfair

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Oyo State Police Command on Thursday said that it has arrested the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola; the Principal of Islamic High School, Ibadan, Fasasi Abdulahi; and six others over the Wednesday Children’s Funfair tragedy in a private school in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

OTN News further reports that the State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this development in a statement released on Thursday.

OTN News gathered that on Wednesday over 30 Minors lost their lives at a funfair in Ibadan which the former Queen (Olori) of Ile – Ife was listed as the main sponsor of the event that turned tragic.

It was further gathered that dozens of children were trampled to death following a deadly stampede that erupted as desperate parents and children struggled to surge into the venue of the funfair through a restricted entrance channel which many others were also critically injured.

However, speaking on the new development from the police over the incident, Osifeso, assured the public, stating, “Justice will be served accordingly.”

He said, “Eight persons have since been arrested for their various involvements in the event.

“Among those detained are Silekunola, aged 31, and Fasasi Abdulahi, the 56-year-old principal of the school.

“The other individuals arrested include Genesis Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisolaja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim, and Abiola Oluwatimilehin, with ages ranging from 25 to 52 years.

“So far, 35 minors have been documented dead while 6 others are critically injured,” Osifeso stated.
