Nine Confirmed Cases of Cholera in Ogun Traceable to Consumption of Tigernuts Milk Says Ogun Commissioner for Health

As Ogun state records one death as a result of Cholera outbreak in the State, with nine confirmed cases, while frantic efforts are in motion to establish the actual status of 16 others that are still under close monitoring and examination, the Honourable Commissioner for Health has linked the nine confirmed Ccases to the consumption of Tigernuts Milk 

The Ogun State state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, made this known on Monday while addressing journalists on the efforts of the state government to curtail possible spread of the disease.

Coker explained that the 25 cases were recorded in seven local government areas in the state namely:Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Ado-Odó/Ota, Remo North, Odeda, Sagamu, Ijebu North, Ewekoro and Obafemi-Owode.

The commissioner further revealed that the nine confirmed cases were traced to consumption of Tigernut milk by the victims, who had a history of travelling from Lagos State to Ogun State.

Coker further disclosed that the state has witnessed an upsurge of the outbreak of the disease within the last 72 hours, noting that it is expedient for people across the state to be aware of the outbreak and consciously adhere by strictest hygiene guidelines such as regular hand washing, especially after using the toilet and also avoid constipation of locally processed foods and drinks that are prepared under questionable hygiene conditions.

Meanwhile the Ogun State Ministry of Health has reiterated the commitment of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration to creating adequate awareness and medical infrastructures towards containing the spread of the deadly disease in the state.
