Nigeria:Police Authorities Apprehend Officers Involved in Abduction and Extortion of N3 Million at Calabar

The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into five officers from Zone 6 Police Headquarters in Cross River State, accused of abduction and extorting N3 million from their victim.

OPEN TELEVISION Naija reports that the officers involved in this actions are now in police custody, allegedly committed the crime while patrolling the Ikom-Calabar highway. 

OPEN TELEVISION Naija reports that the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nelson Okpabi, revealed that the officers are suspected of corrupt practices and unprofessional behavior. 

“The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6 headquarters Calabar, AIG Jonathan Towuru, condemns the unprofessional conduct of the officers accused of abducting and fraudulently extorting N3,000,000 from an individual last week,” the statement read.

"The AIG has directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident to establish the facts and determine appropriate disciplinary actions. 

OPEN TELEVISION Naija reports that officers from the Zone, during patrol on the Ikom-Calabar highway, allegedly engaged in corrupt practices and unprofessional behavior. 

"All five officers involved have been detained and the investigation is underway," Okpabi stated. 

The Assistant Inspector General of Police is committed to ensuring that necessary disciplinary actions are taken against the guilty officers to serve as a discouragement to others, Okpabi added.
