Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency platform covering the Lake Chad region, has reported that "Lakurawas," a newly formed terrorist group, is offering cash incentives to recruit young men in Sokoto.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) recently declared nine alleged Lakurawas members wanted.

According to director of defence media operations, Edward Buba, the group emerged after the Niger Republic’s coup, disrupting military cooperation with Nigeria.

He noted the group’s infiltration into northern Sokoto and Kebbi from Niger Republic and Mali.

Zagazola Makama reports that the group offers up to N1 million for allegiance, leveraging financial incentives in a bid to attract followers.

Sources also suggest Lakurawas follow extremist ideologies akin to Boko Haram, aiming to influence vulnerable communities through ideological and financial appeals.

In a tragic attack on Mera village, Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State, 15 victims were buried in a mass funeral.

OTN News further gathered that the service was attended by Deputy Governor, Umar Tafida, the Commissioner of Police, and the Emir of Argungu, Isma’ila Mera.

However, Tafida extended condolences on behalf of the State Governor, pledging coordinated action with security agencies to prevent further incidents.

The Emir of Argungu encouraged unity and resilience, urging security forces to enhance protective measures.

In conclusion, prayers for peace were offered, and local authorities reassured citizens of ongoing security efforts to safeguard lives and prevent future tragedies.
