The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Has Announced Nigeria's Admission To World Skills International (WSI) After Decade-Long Pursuit, Opening Global Opportunities For Nigerian Youths.

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced Nigeria's official admission into the World Skills International (WSI), noting that the development marks a major milestone in the country's journey of skills development.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija (OTN) News gathered that In a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna, the NBTE’s Head of Media, Mrs. Fatima Abubakar, confirmed the news, referencing a letter dated August 20, 2024, from WSI CEO Mr. David Hoey, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The letter confirmed Nigeria’s membership in the global organization, represented by the NBTE.
A membership certificate, signed by both the WSI President and CEO, has also been issued.
Abubakar highlighted that this milestone marks a significant opportunity for Nigeria to take part in World Skills Competitions.
The membership also opens doors to training, mentorship, and scholarship opportunities for advancing skills development across the country.
“This journey began over a decade ago, and we have now reached this monumental achievement. World Skills Nigeria has finally become a reality,” Abubakar said.
NBTE Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris Bugaje, expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and commended Mrs. Yemisi Akinrinade, who led the Nigerian team in securing the membership.
Bugaje emphasized that Nigerian youths now have the chance to showcase their talents on the global stage, leveraging skills development to earn recognition for the country.
He called on both the Government and private sector to back the initiatives of World Skills Nigeria and urged young people to prioritize skills as their primary career path, to help transform Nigeria's future.
