OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Oji River in Enugu State, Rt Rev Ikechukwu Egbuonu, while speaking to AIT, has highlighted concerns expressed by Nnamdi Kanu when he visited the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, at the Sokoto Correctional Facility.
OTN News further reports as gathered that, the Bishop who disclosed that, the IPOB leader complained of his heart condition, explained that, Kanu expressed fear about his ability to pursue his appeal looking at the distance from Abuja to Sokoto.
The Bishop noted that despite these worries, the Abia-born agitator was very composed in the prison.
According to the Bishop, Kanu said he is supposed to be in Abuja to reconcile his record with the High Court before they proceed with filing the appeal and he has only a 90-day window to pursue this case.
He explained that, Kanu was not quite happy that no signal had been given to Sokoto to bring him to Abuja to do that and return back.
He further detailed Kanu’s difficulty with legal communication, saying: “I also heard when he was requesting to talk to his lawyer over an issue that the lawyer was raising, about a misunderstanding about some things he wrote in…you know…he gave him to file for him.”
He added that Kanu is feeling bad about not being able to speak to his lawyers.
OTN News observes that when the Bishop was reminded about reports that Kanu had dismissed his lawyers, he quickly clarified: “No, he didn’t sack his lawyers.”
He explained that Kanu decided to defend himself in this case and employ the lawyers as consultants to advise him.
The Bishop, however, confirmed the ongoing legal work: “So they were still working even while I was there, one of the lawyers came in with me as I landed.”
