Leadership is About Service, Not Entitlement, Gov. Makinde Bashes Adelabu Over “Èmilókàn” Comment

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, reacting to the Minister of Power and 2027 governorship hopeful, Adebayo Adelabu, recent use of the “Èmilókàn” slogan, has said that leadership is about service, competence, and results, not entitlement or political theatrics.
OTN News further reports as gathered that Makinde who dismissed this statement, declared that the state has moved beyond what he described as stunt politics.
OTN News recalls that Adelabu had recently told supporters that it was his “turn” to govern Oyo State, invoking the popular Yoruba phrase “Èmilókàn”, meaning “it’s my turn”, which gained political prominence during the 2023 general elections, used by the president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
However, Makinde reacting to the statement, described the comment as a desperate attempt to gain attention, saying Oyo people are now more politically aware and will not be swayed by slogans or entitlement politics.
According to Makinde, leadership is about service, competence, and results, not entitlement or political theatrics.
He noted that his administration’s record of performance has changed the face of governance in Oyo State, emphasizing that development, not propaganda, remains his priority.
The governor further urged political leaders to focus on policies that improve the lives of the people rather than engaging in showmanship and personal ambition.
Observers see the exchange as a preview of the political fireworks expected ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election, where both Makinde and Adelabu are expected to play major roles in shaping the future of Oyo politics.
