Labour Party Urges Tinubu to Arrest Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, Sarah Ibrahim Over Treason Allegations

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that a faction of the Labour Party (LP) has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the arrest and prosecution of the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside activists Aisha Yesufu and Sarah Ibrahim, over alleged acts of treasonable felony, cyberstalking, and cyber-bullying.

OTN News further reports as gathered that the call was made in an open letter by the factional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Arabambi Abayomi, who argued that the trio had engaged in actions capable of undermining Nigeria’s democracy and destabilizing the government.

Abayomi urged President Tinubu to uphold the rule of law without fear or favour, stressing that the same legal standards should apply to all Nigerians regardless of political status or influence.

He disclosed plans to approach the Federal High Court in Abuja with a Mandamus suit compelling Tinubu to instruct relevant security agencies to investigate and prosecute Obi, Yesufu, and Ibrahim.

“I am compelled to write to you today regarding a matter of grave national importance that strikes at the very heart of our democracy, the rule of law, and the dignity of the highest office in the land: the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he wrote.

Furthermore, the LP factional spokesperson cited Peter Obi’s legal team’s seven-day pre-action notice to activist Deji Adeyanju over alleged defamation as an example of double standards, recalling that Obi had himself held a press conference in October 2023 questioning Tinubu’s identity, parentage, and academic credentials.

He accused Obi’s political movement of running what he described as a sustained campaign of calumny against President Tinubu, repeatedly labelling his administration “illegitimate” and dismissing the Supreme Court’s ruling that affirmed his victory in the 2023 presidential election.

“Every day, on various social media platforms, countless individuals affiliated with Mr. Obi’s movement engage in unchecked libel, openly referring to you in the most derogatory and criminal terms without any consequence,” the letter further read.

Abayomi therefore appealed to President Tinubu to instruct the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney-General of the Federation to investigate and prosecute Obi, Yesufu, and Ibrahim, insisting that no Nigerian should be above the law.

He, however, concluded by reiterating his intention to proceed with legal action to compel the President to act, claiming that the unchecked activities of the trio posed a threat to national stability and democratic governance.
