JAPA IF YOU MUST BUT STOP BRINGING SHAME TO OUR COUNTRY
In this Opinion article, Comrade Kunle Sodipo submits that The thought of relocating abroad increases day by day withing the young and old, considering the fact that even those who are leading us have also reduced themselves to the same Japa in the name of medical tourism and other selfish purposes after stealing monies which should have been used to provide the same facilities they seek abroad at home. Despite the realities above, anyone leaving Nigeria to another man's land for greener pastures must do so without bringing shame to our nation.

I am compelled to address a matter of utmost importance, a development that has repeatedly embarrassed many citizens, most especially some of us who have chosen to uphold high moral standards in the midst of fascinating temptations within a country where chronic corruption, self-inflicted insecurity, economic instability, infrastructure deficit and governance issues keeps recycling from one government to another. Yes, you heard me, right? It will amount to high-level hypocrisy if I fail to acknowledge the failures and shamelessness of our leaders who have not only failed themselves but also those who gave birth to them. How else can we describe a nation whose leaders have turned themselves into elements of negative headlines all over the world due to their unrepentant taste for power, wealth, control, and relevance by all means possible.
It is quite disheartening that a nation that used to have the strongest currency in Africa, whose hospitals once admitted foreigners, whose government on numerous occasions provided financial aides and supports to other nations is now a subject of ridicule from the same nations who have benefited severally from her goodwill because of the high-level wickedness, greed, corrupt practices of a few citizens in positions of authority. Of utmost concern is the fact that these few corrupt and heartless individuals continue to milk our nation dry with support from their foreign masters who continue to use them as instruments for modern colonization and oppression. It is a known fact that Nigeria is indeed blessed with many natural resources, good weather, land mass, population, and other great possessions to become world economic power but for the manipulations and evil devices of foreign enemies who have repeatedly slowed down her progress through enemies within.
Most regretable is the fact that our leadership positions, which used to be occupied by high intellectuals and morally upright Nigerians, are no longer reserved for competent and intelligent citizens. Instead, we now have highly glorified dropouts, educated illiterates, and morally bankrupt citizens with very low IQ in positions of authority. This is not just applicable to the political class. In fact, the biggest epic center of this calamity is within our public institutions, where we have many incompetent people with little or zero problem solving attributes heading critical units and departments. It has gone so bad that great grandfathers and grandmothers who should have gone home to rest are still in public service, wasting our resources after falsifying their age and, as a result, blocking the younger generation with the required strength and ability from gaining employment for meaningful contributions and productivity at the right time. If I am lying, please go to our government institutions and public offices to see for yourself. You will be shocked at the level of sleeping and gisting competitions by our 70 years plus daddies and mummies claiming to be 50 years plus in age.
This accounts for why our younger, talented and most active generation who have been reduced to menial jobs are left with no options than seeking greener pastures in other countries where competence and intelligence equals more income and progress, against what is obtainable in Nigeria where connections and immortality are key criteria to secure gainful employment. For any young brain to stay put in Nigeria, especially today without thinking of Japa, it takes great courage, sacrifice, strong determination, and grace from above. The thought of relocating abroad increases day by day withing the young and old, considering the fact that even those who are leading us have also reduced themselves to the same Japa in the name of medical tourism and other selfish purposes after stealing monies which should have been used to provide the same facilities they seek abroad at home.
Despite the realities above, anyone leaving Nigeria to another man's land for greener pastures must do so without bringing shame to our nation. Doing so means you are not different from the people who made you leave your country. It also suggests that you would do worse than those currently leading the country if you can have the effontry to go and misbehave in a strange land where their laws are working compared to ours where the laws are easily manipulated to punish only the poor, shield the corrupt and protect the rich citizens. Please tell yourself, family members, and relatives outside Nigeria to shun every form of illegality such as drug dealing, human trafficking, organ harvesting, internet fraud, and other forms of illegal and highly disgraceful ventures that keeps damaging the good image of our country. As a matter of fact, if some citizens can live a good life through legitimate income in Nigeria despite the cruelty of those leading us, it means that you, as a citizen, living overseas especially in countries where the government is people oriented and less corrupt, have a better chance of survival without engaging in any form of illegality.
Remember, whatever you do to destroy other people's chances of survival will ultimately ruin you. You may not know, or you are yet to be told by your fake and business executive religious leaders back home that anything that we gather dubiously will disappear without telling us, and we will surely pay for the lives we build or put in disarray by our good or criminal conduct respectively. Please, Japa, if you have to but don't bring disgrace to Nigeria, rather bring her glory, honor, and prestige like our national male and female teams, security personnel, great scholars and academia, music icons, athletes, wrestlers, authors, inventors and others too numerous to mention. As much as i would have loved to mention our politicians, only a very few can be referred to as role models at this very moment.
