INEC Refutes Reports of Releasing Timetable For 2027 General Election

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reacting to reports claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, has denied releasing such information, describing it as false and misleading.
OTN Need further reports as gathered that the commission who disclosed in a statement on Saturday by its Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Mr Adedayo Oketola, noted that no official timetable had been issued for the forthcoming polls.
According to the statement, "the Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the Commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election."
INEC, who further explained that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law and that any timetable released outside the statutory framework could not have emanated from the commission, noted that it remains guided by the Electoral Act in all its activities.
OTN News observes that the commission cited Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which stipulates that a Notice of Election shall be published not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.
“Any timetable or schedule issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from INEC,” it said.
INEC, however, assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections would be released in due course and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act.
It added that the information would be made public only through its established and verified channels.
Subsequently, the commission urged the public and the media to disregard the fake reports in circulation and to rely solely on information from INEC’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates.
