OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that a cacophony of reactions have continued to follow the altercations between Nigeria's First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who had repirtedly cautioned the Osun state governor, Ademola Adeleke, popularly known as the "Dancing Governor", to cut short his rather prolonged singing during his remarks at the 10th coronation anniversary celebration of Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.
OTN News further reports that the moment, which was captured in a now-viral video, occurred as the governor mounted the podium to pay tribute to the monarch and to congratulate the first lady on her newly bestowed chieftaincy title, Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua.
OTN News observes from the video that the Osun Governor governor, rather than proceeding immediately with his formal message, burst into a series of short musical chants, drawing laughter from parts of the audience.
OTN News further observes from the video that Remi, who had moments earlier received her traditional title from the Ooni, walked towards the podium, gestured lightly to the governor, and whispered to him to proceed with his statement.
“Go ahead,” she was heard saying, in an attempt to steer the event back to its programme of activities.
However, as she returned to her seat, Adeleke resumed singing, prompting her to turn back and intervene more firmly.
“Enough with the music, or I’ll switch off the microphone,” she told the governor, adding that he had “five minutes to conclude” his remarks.
Her comment drew a ripple of laughter and murmurs across the venue, with many guests appearing surprised by the exchange.
OTN News however, observes that the short incident quickly spread across social media platforms, with Nigerians offering varied interpretations — some describing the moment as playful, while others viewed it as a pointed reminder of decorum at a royal ceremony.
Supporters of the First Lady say that she had simply done the right thing while some of her critics say, her public encounter with Governor Adeleke speaks to her high handedness and disrespect for the Governor.
Others have expressed the opinion that the Osun Governor crossed the line of decorum as he should study the temperature of public events graced by him before swinging into his usual singing and dancing mode.
