OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Benue State House of Assembly has debunked the rumour circulating online about a document alleging that lawmakers were working on a bill to ban romantic relationships across the state.
OTN News further reports that the assembly who disclosed this in a statement signed by Mr. Terver Zamber, the Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, described the document as fake, misleading, and a product of mischief makers.
OTN News recalls that the forged Order Paper reportedly suggested that from January 2026, individuals involved in any romantic relationship would face legal punishment.
However, the Assembly, clarified that no such proposal has ever been introduced, sponsored, or debated in the 10th Assembly.
“For clarity, every bill before the Benue State House of Assembly must be sponsored by a duly elected Member representing a constituency.
“The so-called bill being circulated has no sponsor and did not originate from any legislator,” the statement noted.
The legislature, however, stressed its commitment to passing laws that foster peace, development, and unity, urging citizens to dismiss the fake Order Paper as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the House.
“The 10th Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker remains committed to the welfare of Benue people and will not be derailed by falsehoods,” the statement added.
