Reports reaching the news desk at OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News have it that some gunmen have invaded the Government Secondary School, Odugbo in Benue State while students were sitting for their Senior Secondary School West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) exams.

According to a counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, the gunmen invaded the school at about 1.20 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Makama said the gunmen, suspected to be armed herdsmen, shot sporadically into the air, creating fear among the students and staff of the school.

Eye witness accounts said during the incident, an 80-man patrol team of the Benue State Civilian Joint Task Force (PMF) Odugbo arrived at the scene and successfully repelled the gunmen.

OTN News gathered that the attackers fled into a nearby bush, after they got overpowered by the PMF security forces.

According to Makama, no casualty was recorded during the attack by the suspected herdsmen.

He also said that operatives of the patrol team have continued to comb the school environment and surrounding bushes in an effort to track the attackers.

Residents of the community and students of the school who became obviously traumatised after the invasion have, however, been urged to remain calm.
