Governor Adeleke Swears In Newly Elected LG Chairmen, Councillors, OSSIEC Issues Certificates of Return

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has swore in newly elected local government chairmen and councillors across the state.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDG and multilateral relations, Banks Omishore, made this known on Sunday, revealing that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his counterpart from Bauchi State, Bola Mohammed, are in the state in solidarity with Adeleke.
OTN News further reports that following the issuance of Certificates of Return to the elected officers, Governor Adeleke has swung into swift action by swearing in the Local Government Chairmen and their counselors shortly after OSSIEC issued Certificate of Return to them.
Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde and Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi both moved to Osun state on a solidarity visit to the governor."
Notably, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, announced the Peoples Democratic Party, winner of all chairmanship and councilorship positions in the local government election which held last Saturday.
OTN News recalls that in the build up to the election, the opposition parties in the state, All Progressives Congress and Labour Party boycotted the polls.
OTN News reports that the LG polls in Osun state held against security advisory from the Nigeria Police Force and Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi who had cited security threats as basis for suspension of the election but the state government under the leadership of PDP went on to conduct the election.
Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has presented Certificates of Return to elected local government chairmen following the recently concluded election held on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Chairman of the commission, Barrister Hashim Abioye handed over the certificates to the newly elected officials on Sunday, congratulating them on their victory.
He urged them to serve with integrity and uphold democratic values in their leadership roles.
In a statement issued by the commission’s Information Officer, Abioye stated, “The electoral process was conducted in accordance with democratic principles, and we congratulate all winners. We encourage them to be good ambassadors of democracy, both in their conduct and service to the people.”
OSSIEC had earlier announced that candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in all 332 councillorship and 30 local government chairmanship seats in the state.
