The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has introduced a new mobile App and the National Crash Reporting Information System (NACRIS) to enhance road safety management.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News, gathered that the App offers several services, including reporting accidents and emergencies, identifying dangerous black spots, accessing National Traffic Radio, verifying speed limiters, confirming driving school standards, and providing reminders for drivers' license and vehicle registration renewals.
These platforms allow users to verify drivers' licenses, vehicle number plates, speed detectors, and more.
was launched in Abuja on Thursday.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator George Akume CON on behalf of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR officially launched the new FRSC Mobile Application and National Crash Information Recording System.
The launch is in line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr President on ease of doing business and enhancing the safety of lives and properties of all road users.
The President of the Senate was represented by the Senator representing Venue North-West Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Titus Zam.
Others at the event include; Chairman House Committee on FRSC, Hon. Abiodun Deren Adesina, representative of Chairman Senate Committee on Federal Character, Emir of Zauzzau, Mallam Ahmed Nuhu Bamali CFR, representatives of Security Agencies, Chief Executives of Media organisations as well as leadership of various transport unions.
At the event, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, highlighted that these digital tools will help educate both drivers and passengers on factors that contribute to road accidents.
He praised the initiative as a significant step toward reducing injuries and fatalities on Nigerian roads.
OTN News further reports that Akume noted that between January and July 2024, road crashes claimed 2,776 lives and injured 16,000 others, stressing the urgent need for more action from both Government and private stakeholders.
He however commended the FRSC for aligning with the Government’s focus on digital transformation and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting these initiatives for the benefit of all Nigerians.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, explained that the App enables users to alert the FRSC about road safety concerns, including reckless driving and vehicle document verification.
He expressed confidence that the FRSC App's proper use would significantly reduce road accidents.
The Chairman of the House Committee on FRSC, Abiodun Derin Adesida, urged the public to use the app responsibly to promote safer driving habits, while Isa Ore, representing the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), pledged the Union’s adherence to FRSC regulations.
OTN News further reports that the National Head of the Celebrity Special Marshals (CSM) unit of the FRSC, Julie Chi-Nwaoha and many Nigerian Celebrities like Nollywood Actor, Segun Arinze, Hafiz Oyetoro aka Simply Saka and the CEO, Open Television Naija, Ambassador Olufemi Orunsola who joined the Mobile App launch from different locations in the country have committed themselves to using their media influences to create maximum awareness on the use of the newly launched FRSC Mobile App by critical stakeholders in the country's road transportation sector, especially at the grassroots.
