Fire Razes Multi-Million-Naira Property At LAUT

Fatal calamity has been averted as an early morning fire accident that broke out at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching hospital, Ogbomoso in Oyo State which reportedly destroyed property worth millions of naira, leading to the evacuation of some patients from the affected wards, has been contained. 

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that sources within the hospital disclosed that the fire affected the Emergency and Accident unit of the hospital.

OTN News further gathered that some office equipment, books, electronic gadgets, roof and ceiling were consumed by the inferno before the fire was contained.

According to eyewitness accounts, the fire outbreak started around 5 am on Saturday morning, from a paedriatrics consultant’s office, suspecting that the inferno could have been caused by electric spark from the office.

In order to avoid casualities, management of the facility hurridly rushed out 16 patients from the ward during the outbreak.

The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye who confirmed the incident, however said that normal activities have resumed in the hospital.

He said, “Yes it is true. It is a minor incident but normal activities have resumed at the hospital.

In his words, "Yes it is true. It is a minor incident but normal activities have resumed in the hospital," adding that, "The fire incident raised no cause for alarm. Everyone is advised to go about their normal daily activities without fear,” the statement read.

Omotayo further revealed that no life was lost in the fire incident, saying "No human damage was recorded in the incident, the management wishes to state that Investigation is still ongoing with regard to the cause of the incident."

He therefore stated that the hospital management wishes to clarify that the fire incident though reported by some media outlets on Saturday morning was swiftly contained, causing no significant damage to the facility.
