OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced new deadlines for the 2025 admission exercise, directing all tertiary institutions to conclude their processes before the end of the year.
According to the schedule released in JAMB’s weekly bulletin earlier this week, public universities must complete admissions by October 31, 2025, while private universities have until November 30.
All remaining institutions both public and private are expected to wrap up their admissions by December 31, 2025.
OTN News further reports as gathered that the board explained that the new policy, which was approved during the 2025 Policy Meeting chaired by the Minister of Education, is aimed at restoring stability to Nigeria’s disrupted academic calendar and ensuring fairness in the allocation of admission opportunities.
JAMB stressed that universities must finalise admissions even if they are not ready to commence academic sessions immediately, urging institutions to fast-track post-UTME screenings to avoid missing the set deadlines.
OTN News observes that this directive follows the release of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results in May.
The annual exam, scored out of 400, is taken by millions of candidates seeking entry into Nigerian higher institutions. Between 2020 and 2024 alone, more than 8.9 million candidates sat for the UTME, but only about 2.7 million secured admission, leaving over six million stranded and forced to reapply in subsequent years.
With the new timetable, JAMB says it hopes to streamline the admission process, reduce delays, and give applicants a clearer academic paths.
